Rita Khan, Chief DigitalOfficer | Mayo Clinic
As Chief Digital Officer, Ms. Khan will be responsible, together with her physician partner, for Mayo Clinic’s digital strategy and establishing Mayo Clinic’s Center for Digital Health. Her team will create a clear and cohesive digital strategy with support from Mayo leaders and staff, develop and implement a comprehensive digital business plan, and move Mayo Clinic toward a set of digital standards that provide a seamless digital experience aligned with our culture and values.
Ms. Khan was the Senior Vice President of Consumer Digital at UnitedHealthcare, where she directed enterprise-level digital strategy. She led a team responsible for designing and building digital solutions for providers, employers and members across UnitedHealthcare’s commercial, Medicare and Medicaid businesses. Her application of artificial intelligence focused on predictive experiences and personalization through machine learning.
With more than 20 years of experience in retail and ecommerce, Ms. Khan previously was Global Vice President of Product at Digital River Inc., a provider of ecommerce, payments and marketing services. She also was director of bestbuy.com and director of Best Buy’s direct-to-business channel. She began her career at Target Corporation.
A Minnesota native, Ms. Khan is passionate about travel and learning new things, online and offline. She shared with us that her first retail job was at Neiman Marcus in downtown Minneapolis, where her primary customer base was international women who were “in Minnesota because of Mayo.”
Ms. Khan has a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
Shez Partovi MD, Worldwide Lead: Healthcare, Life Sciences & Genomics | Amazon Web Services
Dr. Shez Partovi obtained his medical degree from the prestigious McGill University, in Montreal, Canada and completed his neuroradiology subspecialty training at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ.
Dr. Partovi is a serial entrepreneur and has launched a number of health IT companies, one of which was a telehealth company built on AWS. After a decade of clinical practice, Dr. Partovi transitioned into executive roles at Dignity Health where he served as its Chief Health Information Officer and, subsequently, as Chief Digital Officer/SVP of Digital Transformation.
As the CHIO, Dr. Partovi oversaw the deployment of Cerner across the enterprise in both inpatient, outpatient and oncology settings. As the CDO, Dr. Partovi was responsible for the digital experience of consumers, patients and providers across Dignity Health. Shez joined Amazon Web Services in 2018 as the Worldwide lead for Healthcare, Life Sciences and Genomics.
He is currently working on over a dozen large scale initiatives across the globe and has a unique perspective of the opportunities to transform healthcare worldwide. Dr. Partovi combines his clinical, entrepreneurial and AWS experience to help the audience Think Big and imagine the Art of the Possible.
Christopher (Cris) Ross, Chief Information Officer | Mayo Clinic
Cris Ross has 30 years prior experience in healthcare, technology, and government. At Mayo Clinic, he is responsible for all information technology. Since joining in 2012, he has revamped IT strategy, helped lead an enterprise-wide electronic health record convergence program, developed partnerships, and initiated major innovation programs in data, analytics, and machine learning.
Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, he held technology and business leadership roles with Surescripts, MinuteClinic, and UnitedHealth Group. Previously he held various roles as a tech entrepreneur, financial manager, and Congressional aide.
He is chairman of the Board of the eHealth Initiative and serves on the Boards of Directors of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Zipnosis, an emerging telehealth vendor. He was a member of the Health IT Standards Committee for the U.S. Department of Human Services from 2009-2016 and has served on advisory panels for the American Hospital Association, American Medical Association, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HL7, and the Veterans Administration. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Minnesota and MBA degree from the Yale School of Management.
Julie Flaschenriem, Chief Information Officer | Hennepin Healthcare
Julie Flaschenriem is a patient-centered Healthcare CIO with a reputation for leading enterprise-level business transformation and leveraging technology to improve patient outcomes and reduce the total cost of care. She has a passion for building great teams and working with those teams to improve patient outcomes, patient experience and reducing the total cost of care often employing Kaizen/Lean methods to deliver continuous improvements and cost-effective business solutions. Outside the office, Julie enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and traveling.
Julie is currently the CIO at Hennepin Healthcare after spending time at Fairview/M-Health, Park Nicollet Health Services and Ernst& Young. Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes a nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, a 484-bed acute care hospital, as well as a clinic system with primary care clinics located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and across Hennepin County.
Jonathan Shoemaker, Chief Information & Improvement Officer and Senior Vice President | Allina Health
In this role, Jonathan has oversight for Information Services, Clinical Equipment Services, and Health Information Management. Jonathan’s tenure with Allina Health has included a diverse set of experiences from implementing EHRs to large product rollouts such as Anesthesia, Beaker, Radiology, and Hospice to the selection and implementation of Allina’s HIE (Health Information Exchange). Jonathan also assumed oversight responsibilities for Allina Performance Resources to advance our quality analytics capabilities, help harness our clinical data in service of advancing our care models and driving improved outcomes. Jonathan joined Allina in 2005, leading and initially managing the cardiology technology deployment for Allina.
Jonathan served as the committee chair on the State of Minnesota Standards and Interoperability Committee and currently serves on the state’s eHealth Advisory Committee representing large hospitals.
Jonathan previously held IS leadership roles within both hospital and ambulatory settings and also spent time in information technology consulting with a national consulting firm.
Mouli Venkatesan, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer | OptumHealth & UnitedHealth Group's Enterprise Clinical Technology
Mouli supports businesses, consumers and customers of UnitedHealthcare and OptumHealth. In this capacity, he is responsible for technology strategy and delivery across the enterprise. Mouli also leads the enterprise technology agenda for interoperability and closely partners with UnitedHealthcare and OptumHealth business stakeholders, external regulatorsand industry collaborative standards forums to advance the interoperability agenda for the enterprise. Prior to this role, Mouli served as the CIO, UnitedHealthcare Core Services and was responsible for establishing, leading and executing strategic technology roadmaps and the associated capital investments to support UnitedHealthcare’s businesses through innovative and differentiated technology capabilities. Mouli has an extensive background in the technology strategy and software engineering of modern engineering platforms and high-volume processing systems across the healthcare domain. Mouli received his undergraduate degree in electronic engineering from Indian University and his MBA in health care from the University of St. Thomas.
Robert Booker, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Security Officer | UnitedHealth Group
Robert Booker is the Chief Information Security Officer for UnitedHealth Group (UHG), and in this role, he is responsible for information risk management and cyber defense for all of UHG business segments.
Robert has served as CISO of UHG since July of 2008. His responsibilities support the application of security to UHG’s worldwide focus on clinical care resources, information and technology to serve the health care environment and industry and the protection of information entrusted to UHG. He works closely with the UHG Executive Leadership Team in updating the Board of Directors on the evolving risk landscape and the company’s continued focus on cyber defense. Robert also collaborates actively with other health industry leaders, regulators, risk underwriters, health provider partners and customers.
Robert presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) and has been instrumental in establishing a common security framework for the health industry and in supporting the adoption of security principles by companies across the health ecosystem. He is an alumnus of the first FBI CISO Academy.
Sameer Badlani, MD, FACP, Chief Information Officer | M Health Fairview
Sameer leads M Health Fairview’s information technology services, leveraging his experience as a clinician and IT executive to improve and enable safe, high-quality, and efficient clinical care operations and delivery. His focus is deploying innovative technologies and processes that support the transformation of employee and patient experiences, while building the next generation digital core for their integrated delivery network. Prior to joining Fairview, Sameer served as the Chief Health Information Officer and System Vice President of Enterprise Data Management and Analytics at Sutter Health. Previous roles included Chief Health Information Officer at Intermountain and Chief Medical Information Officer at University of Chicago Medical Center and School of Medicine. He is a national speaker and educator on topics of digital transformation, data and analytics, and innovation. Sameer received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Delhi in India and completed his internal medical residency and served as the Chief Resident at the University of Oklahoma. He also received training in biomedical informatics at the University of Utah’s School of Medicine.
Phil McKoy, Digital Transformation Leader | Optum
Phil McKoy is responsible for leading and executing UHG’s digital transformation to enable the advancement of the most comprehensive, digital, AI-enabled, virtual home-based care platform.
Prior to Phil’s current responsibilities, he was chief information officer of UnitedHealthcare and responsible for establishing, leading and executing strategic technology roadmaps and the associated capital investments to support UnitedHealthcare’s businesses through innovative and differentiated technology capabilities that support all lines of business and constituents.
Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group, Phil was senior vice president and chief information officer for the Global Loyalty Services division of Aimia, a $2.5 billion global leader in loyalty management and analytics. Phil also served as vice president of Target.com, where he was responsible for elevating the end-to-end guest experience on Target.com and other Target mobile platforms. During his eight years at Accenture, Phil consulted with Fortune 500 companies in the United States and Europe.
Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and earned a master’s degree in international affairs from the University of Denver, Graduate School of International Studies in Denver, Colorado.

Alan V. Abramson, SVP of Information Services & Technology and Chief Information Officer | HealthPartners
Alan Abramson is senior vice president for Information Services & Technology and chief information officer for HealthPartners, the largest consumer governed nonprofit health care organization in the nation.
Mr. Abramson is active as an advisor or board member to numerous regional and national organizations including: Normandale Community College, The Health Care Executive Group, University of St. Thomas Graduate Programs in Software, and BethelBiz mentorship program.
He currently co-chairs the Minnesota eHealth Advisory Committee which advises the Commissioner of Health and the Legislature on electronic health policy.

Mark Waind, Executive Vice President & Chief Information Officer | Altru Health Systems
Mark has worked in the healthcare and information technology industry for over 35 years. His focus has always been on developing effective teams. In 2007, Mark took over Altru Health System’s (Altru’s) Information Services Division and immediately reorganized the team, which helped change the culture and improved the retention of staff. Under Mark’s leadership, the newly developed team successfully took on a “big-bang” approach to implementing their Electronic Health Record (EHR) in 2010. Altru has been HIMSS Stage 7 certified, in all hospital and clinic settings, since 2015 and has consistently been in the top 25 on the Most Wired list, finishing at #4 on that list in 2018.
In 2011, Mark started an EHR community connect program. Over the years his team has added 13 separate organizations and over 25 different facilities.
He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Computer Science. He earned a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Mary in 2020. Mark is also certified as a healthcare chief information officer (CHCIO) and as a certified professional in healthcare information & management systems (CPHIMS).
He is a member of the North Dakota Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, the North Dakota Rural Health Association and the Pembina County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.
