Webinar: The COVID-19 Paradigm Shift at Mayo Clinic: Transitioning from “Tried and True” to “New and Nimble”.
Overview: Mayo’s response to COVID
Speaker: Dr. Joel Gordon, CMIO for Mayo Clinic Health System
Bio: Dr. Joel Gordon is a Family Medicine physician that serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer of the Mayo Clinic Community Practices. He is the Enterprise Chair for Usability and served as co-chair of the Epic Implementation Documentation Subcommittee. In 2016 he received his boards certification in Physician Informatics and is a proud graduate of the Epic Builder program. His interest in training end users has resulted in many novel learning systems – including the classes resulting in a brisk adoption of virtual video visits as a response to the COVID-19 altered visit requirements. Through his involvement as advisor to the knowledge management team, Dr. Gordon facilitated knowledge transfer of Mayo Clinic’s COVID-19 expertise in the form of an evidence based knowledge navigator to the international healthcare industry. This was accomplished through the Epic social community as well as non-Epic social networking. Dr. Gordon guided his local clinician teams to form the first Mayo Clinic drive-through community screening team – identifying the earliest COVID-19 infections in greater Minnesota. This early identification of infections allowed these patients to be tracked, monitored and volunteer as the first participants in Mayo Clinic’s Plasma Exchange Bridge therapy trial seeking passive antibody protection for future patients.
