Garrett Jones

Senior Director, Value Based Care, Optum Advisory Services

Garrett is a Senior Director on the Value-Based Care practice at Optum Advisory Services. With 15 years working with healthcare providers in a strategic capacity, he has a range of experiences that he leverages in nuanced and customized ways to enable value-based care capabilities planning, design, and development for organizations looking to manage more of the insurance premium.  In his role at Optum, Garrett leads the delivery of value-based care engagements and lends subject matter expertise to purchaser, payer, and provider partnership strategies.       

Prior to joining Optum, Garrett co-led a health care startup that developed IT and analytics strategy for provider organizations’ value-based care programs.   As the firm’s head of strategy and consulting services, Garrett scoped, developed, and delivered custom solutions to advance financial, clinical, and operational objectives through IT enablement.  

Garrett has served provider organizations – including academic medical centers, large integrated delivery networks, and community-based hospitals – in numerous capacities across client management and program implementation. He spent a significant portion of his career with Sg2, a leading health care intelligence company, and The Camden Group, a health care management consulting firm.  Through cross-functional assessment, stakeholder engagement, and organizational and market data, Garrett orchestrated the development of strategies to be operationalized in the business decisions of his clients. 

Garrett has a BS from Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MA in Education from Dominican University. 


Rob Nation is a Senior Director in Optum’s Provider Actuarial Consulting team.

He has over 15 years of industry experience working with payers, providers, employers and government agencies. Recently, he has consulted with provider organizations regarding Covid-1p modeling, new payment models, and leads a long-term engagement with a large academic medical center, bringing Optum’s analytics and subject-matter expertise to support their value-based initiatives. He also has led several actuarial and strategic engagements with other prominent health systems. Rob has a deep knowledge of value-based care arrangements and other emerging payment reform issues. Before joining Optum, he was a Principal Consultant at Truven/Watson Health focusing on bundled payment programs and other provider reimbursement strategies. He previously served as a Director in Truven Health’s Federal practice, where he led a large portfolio of projects for CMS and other government organizations, including responsibility for budget oversight and staff management.

Rob is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.


Mike Stack is a Regional Vice President of Sale for Optum’s Provider market. 

Mike has lives in the Minneapolis/St Paul area and manages the Midwest region from Optum.  Mike has been with Optum for the past 6 years, the first 3 managing the business development team for Optum Innovation organization and the last 3 years in his current role as VP of Sales.  Prior to Optum  Mike led sales teams in the business to consumer (CRM) marketplace focusing on the health care payer market and specifically United HealthCare.  Mike has a BS in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin.
