#It's Time: To Expand "Coordinated Care"

Archelle Georgiou, MD

Dr. Archelle Georgiou is a physician, “recovering” healthcare industry executive, health reporter, and author. But colleagues think of her as a lightning rod for change. Between 1995 and 2007, she was a senior executive and Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare where she dismantled the company’s bureaucratic policies that hassled patients and physicians. Since 2008, Archelle has served as a senior advisor to untraditional healthcare companies that range from education and analytics to financial services, real estate and mining – because she believes that healthcare innovation will come from cross-industry collaboration.

Archelle is adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota's School of Management and is and Executive in Residence and Industry Advisor for the school’s Medical Industry Leadership Institute. She has covered over 1000 medical topics as the on-air health expert for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul with a weekly segment that encourages viewers to overcome the power imbalance with their doctors and advocate for themselves. In February 2017, she published her first book, “Health Care Choices: 5 Steps to Getting the Medical Care You Want and Need” (Rowman & Littlefield). Dr. Georgiou graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was board-certified in Internal Medicine before pivoting her career to managed care in order to have a broader impact on the healthcare system. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota
